In December of 2019, we introduced the most dramatic overhaul of The Atlantic’s visual identity in its 162-year history. As part of this historic moment, we sat down with Creative Directors Peter Mendelsund and Oliver Munday to hear, in their words, the story and process behind the redesign. That interview was the basis for an originally produced video which pulled from over 160 years of archived covers, stories and artwork.

In addition to the campaign video, we developed a site that further broke down the design pieces at play in the December cover and site relaunch. And finally, we took the provocative December cover, and brought it to a hand painted mural in north Williamsburg.
